Happy Wednesday everyone!
Weather Calendar – What’s the weather like outside? Please put your coat on and go and have a look. Remember to update your weather calendar too.
If yesterday was Tuesday, do you know what day it is today? Yes it’s Wednesday the 24th of February.
Phonics – Here’s Geraldine the Giraffe showing us the letter i. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0gi8OBhl11U. Can you find anything around your house that starts with the same sound? Maybe you would like to try writing the letter i with your magic finger or on some paper, or even in some flour or shaving foam.
Maths – You’ll need a number of items that are the same for this. If you’ve got some seasonal things that would be lovely, but don’t worry if you don’t. We are going to try and estimate the number of items we have. So I’d like you to start by putting a few items on the table, how many do you think we have? Don’t count them, you need to estimate. Do you think you have 1 item? Maybe you think you have 4 or maybe 10. Once you’ve guessed, you’ll need to count them to see if you were right.
In the first picture, the catechist is taking the children out to Children’s Liturgy of the Word to listen to God’s Word at their own level. In the second picture, the adults are listening to God’s Word being proclaimed at the Lectern by the reader. Talk to your grown up about other times you have listened to God’s word, maybe at home or at nursery school. What can you remember?
Changing Seasons – Today we are going to try and think about what we will need for each season and maybe go on a treasure hunt and find them. What do you think you’ll need for the winter – maybe a scarf, hat, mittens and a warm coat. Can you find them in your house? Now what do you think you’ll need for the summer – maybe you might need a swimming costume for the beach, some sun cream and sun glasses. Can you find them in your house? Now what about spring and autumn. Keep these items handy as you’ll need them later on.
Match up – Now can you remember what item you would use in which season? Match the item to the season.
Mark Making – Can you pick up your pencil or pen and follow the lines. pencil control
Nursery Rhyme – here’s a good nursery rhyme that I think you might already know. https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/school-radio/nursery-rhymes-its-raining-its-pouring/z6hq92p
Our school Lent challenge:
This year for Lent, as a school community we are going to take part in the ‘Walk for Water’ Lent challenge.
Watch the national assembly created by CAFOD
In this assembly, find out how even though we are all apart, we are still connected. We’ll travel to a place called Afar in Ethiopia, one of the hottest regions on earth, to meet people who make long journeys to collect water because it is so scarce.
Watch the following video about Abdul and Mohammed who live in the Afar region of Ethiopia. Try to imagine how it would feel to walk 5 hours every day for clean water.
So, let’s walk for water so others do not have to.
Click on the link below to access the instructions to help others by raising money and awareness this Lent.
Also download the water droplet trail template and complete this. Look out for these in your community when you are out for your walk. How many can you spot?
To help raise money and awareness, you could set a target for how far you could walk as a family or set a target for how much money you could raise to help others.
We have also included a helpful calendar, which can allow you to keep track of each day through Lent and provide you with ideas to pray daily during this special time.
Please make sure to send in pictures to your teacher, as we would love to see all the wonderful things you are doing this Lent to support and help others.
If you do donate money directly to CAFOD, please inform school via email@example.com so we can include this in our community total. Alternatively, you could keep your money raised and hand this in to school once we are all back together.
Many thanks for your continuing support,
Staff at St. Mary and St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Primary School
Stay safe and have fun
