Good morning Year 2,

I hope that everyone has had a good rest over the weekend and is looking forward to another fun filled week of learning! Today we will be doing English, Maths, RE, Handwriting and we’ll end with our story. I will feedback on the maths work today.

Remember we are going to meet together using Google Classroom at 2.45 pm this afternoon. I’m really looking forward to seeing you. I’ve emailed your logins and passwords to your parents.

On Friday we will continue with our art work. This week you will need some black and white paint and a small sponge. You could use a kitchen scourer sponge.

Please keep reading. Try to read a little bit every day. Remember you can login into Oxford Owl using the username and passwords y2smst. Once you’ve logged in, I would recommend that you click on the level at the right hand side. Move it down to the Book Band level Turquoise. Then today I’d recommend that you read the story ‘Magic Tricks’.

Please don’t worry if you’re reading something else at home – keep reading that!

In English today we will look at using commas in lists. Please watch and listen to the PowerPoint presentation before completing the task.

In maths today we will be looking at adding two 2 digit numbers. Today’s lesson will be a recapping lesson. We will complete some practical work first using the Dienes blocks and then we will move onto some pictorial representations on the sheet provided.

For the practical task I’d like you to work on these calculations;

24 + 32      35 + 42      17 + 52      45 + 43      72 + 25      84 + 15

Can I politely ask all parents and helpers not to show the children the strategy you were taught. At this stage, it is important that the children know what each digit represents.  The children need to know they add 20 and 30, not 2 and 3! They will move onto the more formal written calculations in time. Thank you

In RE we will be continuing with our books topic. Last week we learnt about a very special book to Christians – The Holy Bible. I was very impressed with all the facts you discovered. Today in RE we are going to learn about The Gospels. These are found in the New Testament section of the Bible.

Listen carefully to the PowerPoint presentation first, then you will play the snap game which involves matching the images of authors to the images of the stories they wrote about and also some words that describe their stories. Once you’ve had fun with this, you need to cut and stick the images onto the sheet (matching the author with their stories) and write a few sentences to go with each.

In handwriting today we will look at two new letters ‘b’ and ‘h’. Remember to pause the video throughout so that you get plenty of time to practice. Please use a pencil to complete this task.

Today we will listen to Chapter 4 of ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’. I’m looking forward to finding out a little bit more about the secret workers.

I hope you all have a great day. I look forward to talking to you at 2.45 pm
