Good morning Year 2,

I hope that everyone has had a lovely weekend and is ready for another fun filled week of learning! Today on our timetable we have English, Maths, RE, Handwriting and then we’ll end the day with the next part of our story. Today I will feedback on your English work.

We’ll be meeting once again on Google Classroom at 2.45pm. I hope you can join us.

Please keep reading. Try to read a little bit every day. Remember you can login into Oxford Owl using the username and passwords y2smst. Once you’ve logged in, I would recommend that you click on the level at the right hand side. Move it down to the Book Band level Turquoise. Then today I’d recommend that you read the book ‘Finding Things’.

Please don’t worry if you’re reading something else at home – keep reading that!

In English today we are starting a new topic. We are looking at ‘traditional tales’. As always, when we begin a new topic in Year 2, I like to see what you can do by yourself. So today I am asking you to write your own version of ‘The Gingerbread Man’. I have attached a PowerPoint presentation to help you think about some of the things you may include in your story and also a short video clip for you to watch to remind you of the story. I’d then like you to write your own version of the story – remember you can change some things to make it your own.

Parents and helpers – please allow your child to complete this written work entirely independently. Don’t help with any ideas, spellings or punctuation. I need to see what the children can do to help me plan and develop the unit further. If there is only a short paragraph, no punctuation or spelling errors etc, please please don’t worry!      Many thanks.

In maths this week we are going to be looking at money. Before you begin, I’d like you to recap money from Year 1 and look at this video first.

Now we can begin to look at our learning today ..

In RE today we are continuing our work linked to Books. Today we will listen to and watch a story from Matthew’s Gospel – The Baptism of Jesus. Once you’ve listened to the story and watched the short video clip I’d like you to retell the story in your own words. Try to remember as many details as possible.

Today in handwriting we will continue with our joined writing. Today we will look at the letter ‘u’. Keep up all your hard work. I am extremely impressed with the writing you’ve sent in so far.

To end the day we will continue with our story ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We will read Chapter 10 today – ‘The family begin to starve’.

I hope you all have a wonderful day.
