Good morning Year 2 and Welcome back!

I hope that you all had a wonderful half term holiday, you certainly deserved it! Today on our timetable we have English, Maths, RE and Handwriting. I will feedback on your RE work today.

We will have our class call at 2.45pm. I hope that you can all join us.

Please keep reading. Try to read a little bit every day. Remember you can login into Oxford Owl using the username and passwords y2smst. Once you’ve logged in, I would recommend that you click on the level at the right hand side. Move it down to the Book Band level Purple. Then today I’d recommend that you read the book ‘A Lucky Find’.

Please don’t worry if you’re reading something else at home – keep reading that!

In English today we will be continuing our work with traditional tales and Little Red Riding Hood. Before you begin today’s work, I’d like you to listen once again to the story.

Over the next couple of days we will imagine that we are Little Red Riding Hood. We will write a diary of our very strange day. I have split the diary up over 4 days because I’d like you to try your very best and include as much detail as possible. Today you will write the first part of your diary. Make sure you work your way through the examples I have given on the PowerPoint presentation . Look carefully at the success criteria and try to include as much of it as possible.

In maths today we are starting to look at something new. We are looking at a new unit called Statistics. This is where we gather information and try to present it in different ways. Today we are going to be learning about tally charts. Begin by watching this video first.

Then I’d like you to do a traffic count for either 5 or 10 minutes either on your street or a street close to where you live. You will record your traffic count as a tally chart. There are two tally charts that you can choose from.

There are a few rules you must follow ….

You MUST complete this with an adult. Do not go out by yourself to complete the traffic count. You must stand right back on the pavement away from the road. You must listen to your adult and follow their instructions at all times. Please follow all Government social distancing guidelines.

Please keep this sheet in a safe place when it is completed as we may use it again later in the week.

Today in RE we will continue with our work the topic we started before the holiday ‘Thanksgiving’. We will listen to a story in the Bible about a very special thanksgiving meal that Jesus shared with his disciples just before he died – The Last Supper. Listen carefully to the story and then perhaps you could role play the story with a piece of bread and either a cup of juice or a cup of water. You will then write a retell of the story in your own words.

In handwriting today we will continue with our cursive script. We will look at a new letter, letter ‘p’. Make sure you keep pausing the video and writing at least 1 full line of each letter, letter combination and word.

Today we will continue with our story ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’. Today we will listen to Chapter 16 The Oompa Loompas!

I hope you have a wonderful day. Work hard and have fun too!
