Good morning Year 3 – It is Friday again, well done for getting this far. For our meeting this morning you will need a pencil and paper.
Today you are going to do guided reading, an Re task, Collective Worship and a math practical activity as well as our Friday mini-project, your mini-project is going to be the same for the next two weeks to give you plenty of time to work on it. Today I will feed back on your Guided Reading.
I am going to ask you to reread chapter 5 today. When you have reread the chapter, please complete the inference questions about the text. Remember the text does not tell you the answer for inference questions, you have to use the information to put it together and work out the answer.
Today you will do a practical activity, you will be developing your understanding of multiplying larger numbers. Please take your time with this and work through the video slowly, as you would if you were in class.
As it is a practical math lesson, there is not a worksheet to complete. It would be really useful if you had some resources ready which you could use as your base 10, this could be Lego bricks, pieces of pasta or you could even draw the base 10 yourself. You will also need some blank pieces of paper to write some numbers on to help you answer some of the calculations.
Watch the video and follow the instructions carefully.
For your mini-project this week I would like you to develop your understanding of River Pollution. This will link in to our Geography topic on Flow and will be very useful to you to focus on for the remainder of our Flow topic.
I would like you to produce a PowerPoint presentation, a poster or anything else that you can think of to tell me all about river pollution. To help you, please think about the following,
- What is river pollution?
- What are the main causes of river pollution?
- What is affected by river pollution?
- How could we help prevent river pollution?
- Any interesting facts about river pollution?
I would like you to spend a bit of time on this project, so please do not submit it today as you will be working on it again next Friday.
As today is Friday and our time for Collective Worship, I would like you to celebrate the feast day of St Thomas Aquinas our Patron Saint. Please find a quiet space and watch the video. When you have finished, I would like you to read the prayer below and reflect on the words.
A Prayer for Students by St. Thomas Aquinas
Creator of all things, true source of light and wisdom, origin of all being, graciously let a ray of your light penetrate the darkness of my understanding.
Take from me the double darkness in which I have been born, an obscurity of sin and ignorance.
Give me a keen understanding, a retentive memory and the ability to grasp things correctly and fundamentally.
Grant me the talent of being exact in my explanations and the ability to express myself with thoroughness and charm.
Point out the beginning, direct the progress, and help in the completion. I ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Grant me, O Lord my God, a mind to know you, a heart to seek you, wisdom to find you, conduct pleasing to you, faithful perseverance in waiting for you, and a hope of finally embracing you.”
— Prayer of St. Thomas Aquinas
Have a wonderful weekend.
