RE:

For our next RE lesson in our topic of ‘Mission’ we are thinking about the Good news for the poor.

When Jesus started his ministry (mission) he attended the synagogue in his home town of Nazareth.  He was given the privilege of reading from the scripture and selected a reading from the prophet Isaiah.  This particular reading became the basis of his mission during his teaching and preaching.  Isaiah 61: 1-2, 10-11, Good News for the Poor – was the scripture chosen.

Here are some questions to ask yourself whilst reading the worksheet and the scripture.

  • Why was the Spirit of God given to Jesus?
  • How does Isaiah describe God’s love?
  • How do you think the people felt as they listened to those words?
  • Who are the people mentioned by Isaiah?
  • Why did he select those people in particular?
  • Where do you think we see these people today?

Look at the worksheet. This includes the important scripture from Isaiah. Underline the important sentences which you think bring comfort to people.

worksheet RE 1

Re-write the passage using words, phrases and images from the modern day.  Describe and show you understand how Christians live out this message today.

An example: Isaiah tells us to care and love for people who are less fortunate than us, if we do this and spread the message of kindness and love, we will be filled with joy and create joyful opportunities for others.

Enjoy your day,

Take care,

Mr. Craig.
