Happy world book day Year 5. Tomorrow morning we will be giving feedback on World Book Day work and any other misconceptions.

As we prepare to return to school, it is important that we remind ourselves of how to stay safe and clean. Our year 6 school councillors have created a short video to remind us all of the importance of washing our hands.

Today we will focus on Maths, English, RE and World Book Day activities.

Today in Maths you will be rounding numbers within 100,000. Make sure you watch the video carefully and answer the questions below.

In this lesson, you will complete your writing of a biography on Harriet Tubman, who led hundreds of enslaved people to freedom along the route of the Underground Railroad. You will write your third paragraph of the main body and then your conclusion.

Today we are thinking about the sacrifice we make in daily life.

Life is full of give and take and we know it is important to get the balance right. Sometimes it is easy to take people for granted, parents or friends, and expect to have things our own way.

Sometimes we have to make sacrifices, to give up things for others.

When it comes to Mother’s or Father’s Day, we remember the sacrifices that parents make for their children.  This is a kind of memorial sacrifice.  You may do something for them, give up some pocket money for a present.  It is living today, in a simple way, what Jesus did.

Sometimes you may give up something so your friend can have a turn.  Sacrifice always involves love.

Answer these questions, record your answers.

  • What kind of sacrifices are we called to make in everyday life?
  • In what way can sacrifices be memorial ones?
  • What rewards do you think these sacrifices have?
  • What does sacrifice always involve?

Now, reflect on the worksheet below. Think carefully about how Jesus told his disciples to love, care and be kind to one another. Remember, Jesus tells us to love one another and to love God.

World Book Day:

To celebrate world book day in school and at home, we are going to look at After the Fall by Dan Santat. Use the link below to listen to the story. If you would prefer to read it, pause the video to read the text on screen.

Click on the link below to find some activities linked to the book. Choose at least two of the activities and send us some pictures of your world book day adventures. Please share your adventures with us by email.
